Quran
The Quran is the central religious text of Islam, believed by Muslims to be the literal word of Allah revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Surah
A Surah is a chapter of the Quran. The Quran has 114 Surahs, ranging from 3 to 286 ayahs each.
Ayah
An ayah is a single verse of the Quran. The Quran contains 6,236 ayahs in the standard Hafs counting.
Qari (reciter)
A qari is a person trained in reciting the Quran with correct tajweed. Famous qaris include Mishary Alafasy, Sudais, Yasser Al-Dosari, and Islam Sobhi.
Tajweed
Tajweed is the set of rules governing the correct articulation, lengthening, and pronunciation of the Quran during recitation.
Mushaf
A Mushaf is a physical or digital copy of the Quran. The most widely used today is the Hafs Mushaf based on the Asim transmission.
Qira'at
Qira'at are the canonical methods of reciting the Quran transmitted through generations of teachers. There are ten authenticated qira'at; Hafs an Asim is the most common.
Tafsir
Tafsir is the scholarly explanation and exegesis of the Quran. Major classical tafsirs include Tabari, Ibn Kathir, and Qurtubi.
Quran recognition
Quran recognition is the use of AI to identify the reciter, Surah, and ayah of any Quran recitation from audio in seconds.
Quran fingerprinting
