Plain-English breakdown of exactly what happens to your audio when you use RecitID — what we capture, how long we keep it, who can see it, and how to delete it.
What we capture
When you tap record, we capture an audio sample of up to 18 seconds from your microphone. We do not capture continuously, we do not capture in the background, and we do not capture before you tap record.
What we do with it
The audio is sent over HTTPS to our identification service, converted into an acoustic fingerprint, matched against our reciter index, and (if needed) transcribed by an AI model fine-tuned on Quranic Arabic.
How long we keep it
By default, the raw audio is discarded immediately after the result is returned. Only the scan result (surah, ayah range, reciter, timestamp) is saved to your scan history.
- Default retention of raw audio: 0 minutes.
- Scan result retention: until you delete the scan from your history.
- Anonymous error samples (only if you opt in via Settings): up to 30 days, used to improve unindexed reciter coverage.
Who can see your scans
Only you. Your scan history is private to your account. We do not share, sell, or expose scan data to any third party. Aggregate statistics (e.g., 'most-identified surah this week') are computed without any user-identifying fields.
How to delete everything
From Profile → Delete account, you can erase your scan history, identification logs, and account in one action. Deletion is immediate and irreversible.
Frequently asked
Do you store my voice recordings?
No, not by default. Raw audio is discarded immediately after identification. Only the result (surah, ayah, reciter, timestamp) is kept in your scan history.
Can I opt out of error-sample collection?
It's opt-in, not opt-out. We never collect error samples unless you enable it in Settings → Privacy. When enabled, samples are kept for at most 30 days and stripped of any identifiers.
Is my scan history visible to other users?
No. Scan history is strictly private to your account. We do not have a public profile feature.
How do I delete everything?
Go to Profile → Delete account. Your scan history, identification logs, and account are erased immediately. Deletion is irreversible.
